The bomb squad was called out to Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center early Monday after hospital security found a suspicious object in the parking lot.
The Nerf football appeared to have wiring and a possible explosive device inside.
"They saw these wires in it and didn't know what it was," Capt. David Abrect of the Garden Grove Police Department said.
