State Claims Against PG&E Top $1 Billion

The California attorney general has filed more than $1 billion in Bankruptcy Court claims against Pacific Gas & Electric Co. on behalf of a dozen-plus state agencies.

The claims include $258.7 million in energy-related costs incurred by the state Department of Water Resources, which has been purchasing power for PG&E customers since mid-January.

The state earlier filed a $179-million claim for the water department's power purchases from April 6, when PG&E filed for bankruptcy, to May 31. Other claims have been filed for environmental cleanups and unpaid taxes.
