October 21, 2001|From Times Wire Reports

An estimated 5,000 Afghans entered Pakistan on Saturday at one border crossing alone--Chaman--and U.N. refugee officials say as many as 10,000 more are believed stranded without proper travel documents on the Afghan side of the border.

U.N. officials said nearly the entire population of Kandahar--estimated at 500,000--has fled the Taliban's home city, which has been the target of U.S. bombs for nearly two weeks.
