The first bowl championship series rankings were released Monday. The top 10, with records in parentheses, Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN poll rankings and comments. Complete BCS rankings, D7.

1. OKLAHOMA (7-0)

AP: 2. USA Today/ESPN: 2. Also ranks as No. 1 team in the BCS computer component.

2. NEBRASKA (8-0)

AP: 3. USA Today/ESPN: 3.Ranks 10th in strength of schedule at 0.40.

3. UCLA (6-0)

AP: 4. USA Today/ESPN: 5. No. 1 in two of eight BCS computers (Seattle Times, Herman Matthews).

4. MIAMI (5-0)

AP: 1. USA Today/ESPN: 1. Win over lousy 1-4 Penn State doesn't help BCS cause.

5. VIRGINIA TECH (6-0)

AP: 5. USA Today/ESPN: 4. Strength of schedule, No. 47, not as bad as you might have thought.

6. TEXAS (6-1)

AP: 7. USA Today/ESPN: 7. Jumped two spots in AP poll thanks to Oregon and Fresno State losses.

7. MICHIGAN (5-1)

AP: 8. USA Today/ESPN: 8. Schedule ranks No. 2 in BCS rankings at 0.08.

8. MARYLAND (7-0)

AP: 10. USA Today/ESPN: 12. Probable BCS loser in matchup of multiple undefeated teams.

9. TENNESSEE (4-1)

AP: 9. USA Today/ESPN: 9. Using its No. 6 BCS schedule strength to stay in BCS race.

10. WASHINGTON STATE (7-0)

AP: 14. USA Today/ESPN: 15. Solid BCS numbers belie lack of national respect.
