September 16, 2001|From Times Wire Reports

Thousands of people marched through Kiev, Ukraine's capital, in memory of Georgi Gongadze, the journalist whose slaying sparked the nation's biggest political crisis.

About 3,000 opposition activists joined the peaceful demonstration, chanting "Kuchma out!" to mourn Gongadze, an Internet reporter critical of President Leonid D. Kuchma. Gongadze disappeared last year, and his headless corpse was found in November.
