Windows XP Now Available in Some PCs

Top personal computer makers said they have begun selling some PCs with Microsoft Corp.'s widely anticipated Windows XP operating system weeks ahead of its scheduled Oct. 25 launch.

The PC makers said they would ship the PCs with the latest version of the dominant operating system on Sept. 24.

Dell Computer Corp., Compaq Computer Corp. and Gateway Inc. said they were selling the PCs over the Internet or by phone; Hewlett-Packard Co. said it was also selling XP-based PCs in its retail locations.
