In the U.S. we have lots of numbers. We have a Social Security number, a passport number, a driver's license number. If you're a legal immigrant, you have a green card number or a tourist or student visa number. What's unbelievable is that they are not linked. In most countries they have a national identification number (card). In this day and age, when you can go into any business in California and ask for credit and in minutes they know you were late on a payment in Texas five years ago, surely we can develop a national identification system.
