A month after he lost the contest for the 2nd District City Council seat, Assemblyman Tony Cardenas (D-Panorama City) said Friday he has filed to raise funds to run for the 6th District seat next year.

Under a redistricting plan recommended by a citizen's panel to the City Council, the 6th District would be moved from West Los Angeles to the east San Fernando Valley, including the neighborhood where Cardenas lives.

Cardenas noted that his Assembly district includes 60% of the proposed 6th Council District.

Two other people--Michael Bonin and Sheila Bernard--filed in the 6th District, but did so before the new boundaries were proposed.
