Deal of the Week: Biking in Provence

April 07, 2002

Independent-minded bicyclists who don't want to ride with a pack might consider the well- priced weeklong packages in France's Provence region offered by Active Journeys Inc. of Toronto. For $850 per person, double occupancy, you get a rented bike, seven nights' lodging, breakfast daily, one dinner and luggage transfers between stops. Air fare to France is extra. You ride at your own pace, covering 12 to 15 miles per day, on a route that includes Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Gordes, Roussillon, Buoux and Lourmarin (near Avignon). The price is good through June 30 and Sept. 1 to Oct. 31. For the same price, the company offers weeklong hiking tours on a similar route. (800) 597-5594, www.activejourneys.com.
