April 23, 2002|Bloomberg News

Ohio Art Co. agreed to stop collecting information from children who visit the Web site for its Etch-A-Sketch drawing toy, unless it receives written permission from their parents.

Ohio Art, which said the children's data never were disclosed to other companies, also will pay $35,000 to settle a Federal Trade Commission complaint that alleges the company violated a regulation designed to protect children's privacy online.

Shares of Bryan, Ohio-based Ohio Art rose $3.15 to $23.15 on the American Stock Exchange after the company announced a special dividend.
