A North Carolina man hired for $300 by a woman to kill her husband was executed by injection. Ernest Basden, 50, was pronounced dead at 2:19 a.m. at Central Prison in Raleigh, said Keith Acree, a spokesman for the state Department of Correction.
Basden was convicted of first-degree murder in a 1992 plot to kill Billy White, a civic leader in Kinston who was lured to a remote logging road and shot.
