College Basketball | WOMEN'S ROUNDUP

December 29, 2002|From Associated Press

Gwen Jackson scored 16 points and Tasha Butts had a season-high 13 points as No. 5 Tennessee defeated No. 12 Notre Dame, 77-61, at Indianapolis on Saturday.

The Lady Volunteers (9-2) kept their record perfect against the Irish by winning their 15th consecutive game in the series.

The Irish (7-2) wanted to avenge an 89-50 loss to the Lady Vols in March that knocked defending champion Notre Dame out of the NCAA tournament.

But the Irish shot just 30.6% from the field, and their two leading scorers ahead of the game, Jacqueline Batteast and Alicia Ratay, combined for only seven points. Courtney LaVere finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Notre Dame.
