Deputy Hurt When Car Hits His Motorcycle

January 01, 2002

A Ventura County sheriff's deputy was injured Monday morning when his motorcycle was struck by a car.

Deputy Kristoffer Waters, 32, was westbound on Avenida de Los Arboles near Erbes Road about 7:30 a.m. when a car driven by 76-year-old Emiko Furushiro of Thousand Oaks struck the deputy, said California Highway Patrol Officer Steven Reid.

Waters was thrown from the motorcycle and knocked unconscious, said Senior Deputy Vince Camou.

Waters was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for a broken collar bone, fractured wrist, severe facial abrasions and at least one tooth knocked out. Furushiro was not cited, and the accident is still under investigation, Reid said.
