* U.S. Forest Service needs volunteers for eagle counts Jan. 12, Feb. 9 and March 9 at various lakes in the San Bernardino Mountains. No experience is necessary. Information: Marc Stamer, (909) 866-3437, Ext. 3216, and Veronica Magnuson, (909) 337-2444.

* LA's BEST After School Enrichment Program, which provides a safe and supervised after-school education, enrichment and recreation program for children ages 5 to 12 in Los Angeles, needs volunteers for any of 101 schools. Information: Meaghan Townsend, (213) 978-0798.

* Indian Child and Family Service needs Native Americans to volunteer as foster parents for Native American children. Information: (213) 387-5772.

* Penny Lane, a home for abused teens in North Hills, needs volunteers to provide companionship and guidance to emotionally disturbed teens. Information: (818) 892-3423.

* Encino B'nai B'rith needs drivers to volunteer for about an hour or more per week to pick up day-old bagels, bread and cakes from markets and bakeries in the San Fernando Valley for consumption by poor families, seniors, battered women and their children and the homeless. * Operation Read, a reading initiative for delinquent, abused or neglected children in the care of Los Angeles County, needs tutors at Camp Scott and Camp Scudder in Saugus to help youths improve their reading skills. Information: (661) 296-8500.

* KOREH L.A., the Jewish Federation's Los Angeles Jewish Coalition for Literacy, needs reading partners to work one on one, for one hour a week, with Los Angeles Unified School District elementary school students from kindergarten through third grade.
