Police Lieutenant Dies After Battle With Cancer

January 11, 2002

Police Lt. William F. Bogner, a popular lawman who served his entire 30-year career in Ventura, died Wednesday after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 52.

Bogner started with the Ventura Police Department in July 1971, later working as a SWAT officer and in special investigations and patrol. He retired last March.

He was involved in some of the city's largest drug busts. In 1998, he was named Supervisor of the Year.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ventura Missionary Church.
