* Los Angeles Unified School District's Academic Mentor Program needs volunteers to serve as mentors for students in kindergarten through eighth grade who are at risk of academic failure. * Lutheran Social Services in Van Nuys needs mentors to motivate low-income people who are seeking employment. Volunteers must be willing to make a one-month commitment of one hour a week. Training will be held Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Information: Rebecca Duran, (818) 901-9485.
