48,000 Get Incomplete Voter Info

Election: Printing snafu leaves fiscal analysis of Measure W out of South County pamphlets.

A printer's error caused the fiscal analysis for Measure W, the March initiative that would change the zoning of the closed El Toro Marine base from an airport to a large urban park, to be omitted from about 48,000 voter pamphlets mailed to South County residents, county officials said Tuesday.

Registrar of Voters Rosalyn Lever said most of the ballot pamphlets sent were good. But missing in some of the Republican sample ballots was information on two countywide measures--Measure V, the county charter initiative, and Measure W.

Also missing was information on some judicial and school races on the March ballot.

The incomplete pamphlets, printed by a Visalia company, were mailed to voters in Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo, Lever said.

"These kinds of printing errors happen all over the state," Lever said. "This vendor is no different than the rest."

Lever has ordered the pamphlets to be reprinted with the missing information and mailed to the affected voters.
