Shrine Football Returns to North-South Format

The Shrine All-Star Classic football game will return to a format matching the top players from Southern California against their counterparts from Northern California.

The game is scheduled for July 13 at Mount San Antonio College.

John Monger of Chino High has been chosen to coach the South team.

For the last seven years, the game featured top high school players from California against the best players from Texas. California had a 6-1 lead in the series.

The change in format was made to save costs and help refocus attention on the California-based Shrine hospitals, according to game spokeswoman Sandy Stewart.
