New Yorkers Urged to Conserve Electricity

July 22, 2002|Bloomberg News

Consolidated Edison Inc. asked New York City residents and workers to conserve power today after a fire at a transfer station knocked out service to the west side of Lower Manhattan. The utility is "fairly confident" there will be no power failures, Consolidated Edison spokeswoman Martha Liipfert said.

Still, the company asked that electricity be conserved throughout the city, particularly in the areas affected by the fire.
