Infant's Cause of Death Still Undetermined

July 22, 2002|From Times Staff Reports

An autopsy conducted Sunday could not pinpoint the cause of death of a 4-month-old baby who was left in a car, a coroner's spokesman said.

The infant, Christian Rodrigo of Hacienda Heights, was allegedly left for seven to eight hours Wednesday by his mother. When Roxanne Rodrigo returned to the car, the boy was dead, authorities said. But the death went unreported until Saturday, when Rodrigo told her father, who summoned police.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies arrested Rodrigo, 23, on suspicion of murder. She is being held in lieu of $1-million bail.

The county coroner's office will perform additional tests, said coroner's Lt. Fred Corral.
