Odorous Sentiments

June 23, 2002

There is an odor more offensive than Peter Hong's ethnic lunch ("Before Silicon Valley, There Was San Jose," Weekend Escape, May 19), and that's the faintly pungent stench of racism in June Cotter's letter ("No Odorous Takeout Aboard, Please," June 2).

Is it really that bad, and is it really that difficult to tolerate? Airlines serve beer, and that smells. Same for the hot dinners, some of which include fish and teriyaki, not to mention beef, which, to vegetarians, has a strong odor.
