Bills Release Inconsistent Johnson, Save $6 Million

A league source said that a tentative schedule for next season includes an opener on Thursday, Sept. 5, at Giants Stadium between the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. It would be televised by ESPN. The first Sunday of the season is Sept. 8.... Albert Connell was released by the New Orleans Saints, who suspended the wide receiver Dec. 19 after he was arrested on charges of stealing more than $4,000 from teammate Deuce McAllister.... The Baltimore Ravens cut two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Sam Adams.... ESPN reported that former UCLA linebacker Donnie Edwards was released by the Kansas City Chiefs.... Indianapolis Colt quarterback Peyton Manning sued a Staten Island sports memorabilia dealer for fraud and breach of contract, saying he is owed $105,000 for autographing 2,500 items, including footballs, helmets and jerseys.... The Cincinnati Bengals have hired former Ohio State coach John Cooper as a part-time consultant to help scout college players and assess them for the NFL draft.
