An 11-year-old girl critically injured after being buried alive in a 20-foot-deep sand pit last week is now home.
Hospital officials released Miranda Hernandez on Tuesday, but her lawyer said she appears to have suffered a brain injury from the incident.
"She's slow," said Amy Cruz, Miranda's mother. "Everything is slow to her right now. She talks really slow, she reaches slowly. I'm very thankful that she's alive."
Sisters Andrea Cavazos, 12, and Alyssa Ortiz, 9, were killed March 13 after they tried to retrieve a basketball in the pit used as fill for a nearby cemetery.
Attorney Charles Hawkins said he plans to file a claim against the Public Cemeteries District.
