BEIRUT — Prince Nawaf ibn Abdulaziz, Saudi Arabia's intelligence chief and the No. 2 official in the Saudi delegation to the Arab summit here, suffered a stroke Wednesday and underwent brain surgery, delegation members said.

Nawaf, who is in his 70s, suffered a brain hemorrhage and was in stable condition, they said.

Saudi television showed Crown Prince Abdullah visiting the American University of Beirut hospital. According to the newscast, doctors reassured Abdullah about his half-brother's condition and said Nawaf would be released soon.
