Government Threatens to Resume Missile Tests

The World | IN BRIEF / NORTH KOREA

November 06, 2002|From Times Wire Reports

North Korea says it will resume missile test launches unless Tokyo stops making Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program and the fate of five Japanese abductees central to normalizing relations.

North Korea's official news agency said Japan's stance on the abductees and its demands that North Korea stop developing nuclear arms are "creating very serious issues as [they are] illogical."

Officials from the two sides held a round of normalization talks last month. But the talks bogged down, and North Korea now says Japan is violating agreements on the abductees.
