Government of Party With Islamic Roots OKd

Turkey's Parliament approved a new government, signing off on appointments of a new ruling party with Islamic roots.

It then began debate on reforms designed to end torture and boost the nation's lagging bid to join the European Union.

The Justice and Development Party formed Turkey's first majority government in more than a decade last week after sweeping the Nov. 3 elections.
