Jobless Claims Fell by 40,000 Last Week

October 11, 2002|Reuters

First-time jobless claims fell by 40,000 last week--the biggest drop since April--to a seasonally adjusted 384,000, the Labor Department said.

The less volatile four-week moving average of these claims stood at 412,250, a decrease from the previous week but still well above the 400,000 level analysts see as an indication of a lackluster labor market.
