No. 3 Hokies Take to Air on Temple

Bryan Randall threw a 32-yard touchdown pass on the last play of the third quarter to lift No. 3 Virginia Tech over Temple, 20-10, on Saturday at Blacksburg, Va.

The Hokies (8-0 overall, 3-0 Big East Conference), whose offense has been dominated by tailbacks Lee Suggs and Kevin Jones, led, 10-3, when Randall passed to Doug Easlick over the middle as he crossed into the end zone.

It was only the fifth touchdown pass of the season for Randall, who also threw two interceptions and fumbled once. Randall completed 13 of 20 passes for 146 yards.

Temple (3-5, 1-2) held Lee Suggs to 47 yards in 19 carries and Jones to 72 yards in 17 carries.

David Abdul kicked a 42-yard field goal in overtime after tying it with a 30-yarder with five seconds left in regulation as Pittsburgh (6-2, 3-0) scored a 19-16 victory over Boston College (4-3, 0-3) at Pittsburgh. Boston College had a chance to tie the game in overtime, but Sandro Sciortino's 39-yard field-goal attempt was wide left.... Troy Nunes threw two touchdown passes and Damien Rhodes scored three times as Syracuse (2-6, 1-3) rolled to a 45-14 victory over Rutgers (1-7, 0-4) at Syracuse, N.Y.

A.J. Suggs passed for 220 yards, and Georgia Tech (5-3, 2-3) rushed for 211, holding on for a 23-15 victory over Virginia (6-3, 4-2) at Atlanta, ending the Cavaliers' six-game winning streak.... Scott McBrien threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Maryland (6-2, 2-1) won its fifth straight with a 45-12 victory over Duke (2-7, 0-5) at Durham, N.C.... James MacPherson threw for two touchdowns as Wake Forest (5-4, 3-3) shut out North Carolina (2-6, 0-4) for the first time since 1966 with a 31-0 victory at Winston-Salem, N.C.

CONFERENCE USA

Dave Ragone set a Louisville (5-3, 3-1) record with 18 straight completions and threw a career-high five touchdown passes as the Cardinals rolled to a 44-20 victory over East Carolina (2-5, 2-1) at Louisville, Ky. Ragone completed 23 of 32 passes for 352 yards. The 18 consecutive completions broke the record of 17 set by Chris Redman against Tulane in 1998.... J.P. Losman threw for a season-high 329 yards and five touchdowns, and Mewelde Moore became Tulane's leading career rusher as the Green Wave (6-3) rolled to a 51-30 victory over Navy (1-7) at New Orleans.... DeMarco McCleskey rushed for 101 yards, and scored three touchdowns in the first half to lead Cincinnati (3-5, 2-2) to a 48-10 victory over visiting Memphis (2-6, 1-4).... Darrell Hackney threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Willie Quinnie with eight seconds left as Alabama Birmingham (4-4, 3-1) scored a 29-26 victory over Army (0-8, 0-6) at West Point, N.Y.

Nick Palazzo's three touchdowns led Harvard (4-2, 3-0) to a 24-17 victory over Princeton (4-2, 2-1) at Princeton, N.J.... Mike Mitchell passed for 351 yards to lead Penn (5-1, 3-0) to a 41-20 win over Yale (3-3, 1-2) at New Haven, Conn.... Trevor MacMeekin's 42-yard field goal in the second overtime led Cornell (2-5, 1-2) to a 10-7 victory over Brown (0-6, 0-3) at Providence, R.I.... Joe Alls ran for 109 yards, and P.J. Pope had 81 and two touchdowns as No. 24 Bowling Green (7-0, 4-0) pulled away for a 38-20 victory over Ball State (3-5, 1-3) at Bowling Green, Ohio.... Byron Leftwich passed for 374 yards and two touchdowns to lead Marshall (6-1, 4-0) to a 23-18 victory over Central Michigan (3-5, 1-3) at Mount Pleasant, Mich. Leftwich's TD passes put him in 15th place in NCAA history with 77, surpassing John Elway and Donovan McNabb.... Deon Smith recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to help lead Northern Illinois (6-3, 5-0) to a 24-20 victory over Western Michigan (2-6, 1-3) at Kalamazoo, Mich.

Casey Bramlet passed for 387 yards and two touchdowns as Wyoming (2-6, 1-2) pulled off its biggest victory in years with a 34-26 win over No. 22 Air Force (6-2, 3-1) at Laramie, Wyo. The Cowboys had dropped 17 straight conference games over four seasons.... Casey Kelly tied the game on a two-yard run with 46 seconds left in regulation, and Justin Millea scored on a one-yard run in the second overtime to lead New Mexico (4-5, 2-1) to a 42-35 victory over Utah (2-6, 0-4) at Albuquerque.... J.R. Tolver caught two touchdown passes to lead San Diego State (3-5, 3-0) to a 31-21 victory over Nevada Las Vegas (3-5, 1-2) at San Diego.

Eric Richardson rushed for 197 yards as Tulsa (1-7, 1-3) ended the nation's longest losing streak at 17 with a 20-0 victory over Texas El Paso (2-6, 1-3) at Tulsa, Okla.... Luke McCown threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns, and Joe Smith ran for three more scores, as Louisiana Tech (3-5, 2-2) came back for a 50-47 victory over Nevada (3-5, 2-2) at Ruston, La.... Backup quarterback Greg Henderson replaced injured starter Kyle Herm and ran for 90 yards to lead Rice (3-5, 2-3) to a 27-15 victory over Southern Methodist (1-8, 1-4) at Houston....
