On Friday, the Center for Land Use Interpretation's Polar Program will debut its exhibit, "Antarctic 1: Views Along Antarctica's First Highway." Images of the 2.45-mile remote road are provided by Neelon Crawford, Stuart Klipper and other photographers who have worked in the "continent of science." Curator Bill Fox, an author and researcher who specializes in the examination of sparse places, will give a free lecture at 6 p.m. Saturday followed by a reception. The free exhibit continues through Oct. 19 at CLUI, 9331 Venice Blvd., Culver City. For more information, call (310) 839-5722; www.clui.org.

* The MAK Center for Art and Architecture will present workshops and lectures on Sunday as part of its MAK Day at the Schindler House: Envisioning Architecture. The daylong event will explore the relationship of photography and other imaging technologies to the built environment. Workshops will be conducted by artist Laura Parker, who will show how to make photograms from three-dimensional architectural models, and architect-photographer Tres Parson will teach how to construct a portable viewing box.

"Iconic LA" author Gloria Koening will lecture on how photographs have created instant architectural icons. The free event is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The MAK Center is at Schindler House, 835 N. Kings Road, West Hollywood. For more information, call (323) 651-1510; www.makcenter.org.
