Onion Rings

Sometimes they're very large, crunchy and a deep golden brown, sometimes they're thin, crispy, and frizzled. Whatever the style, they're an American favorite!

The Bungalow: You'll find these soft, sweet, slightly crusty onion rings as a side dish or piled high on top of various cuts of beef. The kitchen uses thinly sliced yellow onions dipped into a seasoned flour (spiked with cayenne), then they flash fry them till soft and a deep golden brown. Morton's: Movie executives may be making deals around you, but focus on the divine onion rings. Either have the burger, which comes with an ample pile, or get a side order. These tasty, thick crisp rings are made from yellow onions dipped in milk and seasoned flour then bread crumbs with a dash of paprika, white pepper and cayenne. (Onion rings, $5.) Brentwood: These giant onion rings are served as an appetizer or a side dish. They begin with thickly sliced Maui onions that they cover in flour seasoned with paprika and cayenne, afterward the onions are fried in olive oil till sizzling. Kate Mantilini: They begin with thickly sliced sweet red onions placed in buttermilk, dredged in seasoned flour, then fried till they're perfectly crisp and golden. Maestro's Steakhouse: Here there are very thin, lightly floured onion rings. And colossal onions rings made from thickly sliced onions dusted with seasoned flour, bread crumbs, parmesan, and Italian herbs then fried to a honey brown. Mo's: While you're indulging yourself by sinking your teeth into a juicy burger with loads of extras, order a basket of their big, thick, crunchy onion rings.
