3 Attacks on Gay Men Prompt Extra Patrols

September 25, 2002|From Times Wire Reports

Police are stepping up patrols following three hate-crime attacks on gay men earlier this month.

The suspects in each case yelled anti-gay epithets and attacked their victims after dark in the Hillcrest neighborhood, the center of the city's gay community, said police Capt. Bruce Pfefferkorn.

A 17-year-old suspect in one of the attacks was being held Tuesday in Juvenile Hall on charges of committing a hate crime and assault with a deadly weapon.
