September 29, 2002|From Times Staff Reports

A 73-year-old Oxnard woman was carried to safety by two neighbors after a fire broke out in the bathroom of her apartment, authorities said Saturday.

The blaze began about 5 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of West Gonzales Road. Four apartments sustained about $66,000 damage.

Fire officials said the neighbors carried out the woman after she refused to leave the apartment on her own.

She was treated at Ventura County Medical Center for smoke inhalation.
