New Charge for Woman Accused of Beating Child

September 29, 2002|From Times Wire Reports

A woman accused of hitting her 4-year-old daughter in a beating caught by a surveillance camera surrendered to Mishawaka authorities to face a charge of giving police false addresses.

Madelyne Gorman Toogood, 25, was released after posting a $2,000 bond on the misdemeanor charge of false informing.

Toogood's attorney, Steve Rosen, called the charge unfair.

Authorities say Toogood gave them addresses for commercial mailbox businesses in Indiana and Texas.

Toogood has said she and her husband belong to a nomadic group called the Irish Travelers.
