The superintendent of a school district in Connecticut has been chosen as the top candidate to lead Oak Park Unified School District.
School board members Monday night will consider hiring Gary F. Richards, who has been superintendent in New Canaan for the last 10 years, interim Supt. Kenneth Moffett said. He said the Connecticut school district is about the same size as Oak Park, which has about 3,900 students.
If hired, Richards, 55, will replace Marilyn Lippiatt, who left her $134,000-a-year job in November to join a Redlands firm that provides educational services to schools in California and across the country. The salary for a new superintendent has yet to be determined, Moffett said.
Richards, who is married with three daughters, has been an educator for 32 years. He has worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, curriculum specialist and superintendent.
