ROUND ONE AT A GLANCE

No. Team;Player;P;HT;WT;College;It's a fact;Sam Farmer's Comment

1. Cincinnati; Carson Palmer; QB; 6-5; 232; USC; Heisman Trophy winner threw for 3,639 yards, 32 touchdowns last season.;Fourth quarterback selected No. 1 in the last five years.

2. Detroit; Charles Rogers; WR; 6-2; 202; Michigan St.; Biletnikoff Award winner caught 13 touchdown passes last season.;Now the Lions have to worry about signing him.

3. Houston; Andre Johnson; WR; 6-3; 230; Miami; Big East 60-meter indoor, 100-meter outdoor champion in '02.;Johnson is muscular and great over the middle, and can stretch the field too.

4. New York Jets (a); Dewayne Robertson; DT; 6-1; 317; Kentucky; Scouts stunned by 4.9-second time in 40, blistering for someone that big.; Robertson has been compared to a young Warren Sapp -- and Robertson didn't have Sapp's supporting cast.

5. Dallas; Terence Newman; CB; 5-10; 189; Kansas St.; Jim Thorpe Award winner had 54 tackles, five interceptions.;Cowboys considered trying to trade up for Robertson, but say they're delighted to get Newman.

6. New Orleans (b); Johnathan Sullivan; DT; 6-3; 313; Georgia; Had 74 tackles last season, 15 behind line of scrimmage.; Sullivan went a little earlier than many people expected, but Saints clearly like his quickness for a big man.

7. Jacksonville; Byron Leftwich; QB; 6-5; 241; Marshall; Passed for 4,268 yards, 30 touchdowns last season; Mark Brunell has two years left on his contract, but will he want to be around?

8. Carolina; Jordan Gross; T; 6-5; 300; Utah; Started at every offensive line position but center.; Gross should start at right tackle, unstable since Chris Terry was released for disciplinary reasons midway last season.

9. Minnesota (c); Kevin Williams; DT; 6-5; 304; Okla. St.; Had 61 tackles, seven sacks last season.; Vikings dropped two spots because, incredibly, they couldn't get their pick in in time.

10. Baltimore;Terrell Suggs; DE; 6-3; 262; Arizona St.; Lombardi Trophy winner had 24 sacks.;Suggs will play outside linebacker for the Ravens, where he will be opposite Peter Boulware.

11. Seattle; Marcus Trufant; CB; 5-11; 199; Wash. St.; Didn't allow a touchdown reception the last two seasons.; The fourth cornerback taken by Seahawks in three years, but the first first-rounder since Shawn Springs in 1997.

12. St. Louis; Jimmy Kennedy; DT; 6-4; 322; Penn St.; Had as many tackles behind line (39) as former Nittany Lion LaVar Arrington.; Stunned and delighted Rams had Kennedy ranked among the top five picks.
