Make room at the table for children

August 03, 2003

This letter is in reply to disgruntled diner Lucy Eidenbock ["Kids and Fine Dining Make a Poor Mix," Letters, July 27]. You are forgetting that most of the adults in this country do have offspring and are entitled to enjoy dinner with their children. You are responsible for finding "fine dining" for adults only, as you prefer. Don't inflict your presence on us, either.

Children are delightful members of our society, which welcomes them and their wonderful parents who would rather take them out to dinner than leave them home.

I have often dined accompanied by my young children, who have understood my expectations when entering a fine restaurant. What I despise are those who prejudge our children, automatically assuming they will be rude.
