BAGHDAD — A U.S. soldier was killed and another injured when their vehicle struck another after their supply convoy came under fire south of Baghdad, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement Wednesday.

The statement did not say when the incident happened.

It said the soldiers were southeast of the town of Diwaniyah, about 100 miles from Baghdad. The injured soldier returned to duty after medical treatment.

Both victims were attached to the 3rd Corps Support Command operating out of Kuwait.

In another incident, the Central Command said, a U.S. citizen working as an interpreter was killed and two soldiers were wounded when they were attacked by gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades Wednesday in Tikrit, north of Baghdad.

The victims were taken to a combat hospital, where the interpreter died.

No names have been released pending notification of relatives.
