THE STATE / RECALL Q&A

If Gov. Davis is recalled, how soon would his replacement take office?

August 23, 2003

If the recall passes, Davis will be removed from office as soon as the election results are certified by the secretary of state.

That could take up to 39 days after the recall vote.

The candidate who wins the election must take office within 10 days of the results being certified. If the winner does not -- because of death, felony conviction or refusal to take office -- the lieutenant governor will become governor.
