A California Highway Patrol officer was killed Tuesday when a driver crashed her sport utility vehicle into his parked patrol car, authorities said. Officer Paul Pino, 49, died en route to the hospital.
Pino, a 23-year veteran, had stopped a truck shortly before 8:30 a.m. along U.S. 395. He was in his car writing a citation when Carley Crystal, 20, of San Diego veered onto the shoulder and struck his car, the CHP said.
