A congressional panel will hold hearings this year to examine the mutual fund industry, with a focus on the fees that funds charge investors, Rep. Michael G. Oxley (R-Ohio) said.

In an interview with The Times, Oxley said a subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee, which he chairs, would hold the hearings.

Earlier this year, Oxley asked the General Accounting Office to examine mutual fund fees. He also has questioned the role funds played in the late-1990s tech stock bubble.
