University Police Protecting Lavin

February 08, 2003|Steve Henson

WASHINGTON — A University of California police officer accompanied UCLA on the trip to Georgetown because Coach Steve Lavin has been the target of threats over the last two years from an unidentified man living in the Washington area.

The officer remained by Lavin's side throughout the day Friday, was with the team during a two-hour bus tour of the nation's capital before practice at the MCI Center and is expected to sit on the Bruin bench during today's game against the Hoyas.

Neither Lavin nor a UCLA spokesman would comment.
