Re "States Follow California's Lead on Priest Abuse," Feb. 13: The general counsel for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops apparently believes that investigation of criminal acts by abusive priests will threaten freedom of religion in this country. Poppycock! An abuser is a criminal to be tried and punished. Religion has nothing to do with this type of behavior.
