CELEBRITY WEB

A 10-best list on the 'Sordid' side

January 12, 2003|Elaine Dutka

Recording artist of the year: Cher.

Favorite single: "No Panties" by Trina.

Favorite movie: "Sordid Lives."

If there was any doubt that 10-best lists often reveal more about the maker than what's chosen, consider these selections from Andre Charles, better known as the drag queen RuPaul. In an age when celebrity plus Web site equals endless opportunities for opining, occasions like the turn of the year have become a chance for the gleeful expression of sensibilities that paddle outside the mainstream.

On the Web log he keeps on www.rupaul.com, the self-proclaimed "Foxy Lady" selected "Sordid Lives" star Beth Grant as his favorite actress of 2002, while his best actor choices, Colby Taylor and Colton Ford, both came from adult films. On the small screen, "24" and "Friends" were cheerfully ignored in favor of "Judge Judy," who beat out "Golden Girls" and "American Idol."

Best author of 2002? David Sedaris. Forget that Sedaris' "Naked" came out in 1997 and "Golden Girls" signed off a decade ago. Favorites are favorites. RuPaul, no doubt, would call them timeless.
