3 Boys Admit to School Vandalism

January 29, 2003|From a Times Staff Writer

Two eighth-grade boys and a fourth-grader have admitted to vandalizing a Palmdale school, resulting in more than $85,000 in damage, authorities said Tuesday.

The three boys were turned in by their parents to the Los Angeles County sheriff's station in Palmdale over the weekend and were expected to return there Tuesday to be booked.

The boys told detectives about other recent vandalism incidents on and around the Ana Verde Plaza Elementary School campus, school officials said.

Vandals broke into the school during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. They covered 25 rooms with graffiti and human waste, and smashed furniture, lights and computers.

"I commend the parents for doing this," said Isaac Barcelona, spokesman for the Palmdale School District. "It was probably a very difficult thing to do. But, hopefully, it'll put a stop to this."
