2 Held in Connection With Slaying of Man, 81

Police arrested two men Wednesday in connection with the slaying of an 81-year-old man in his mobile home. The victim, Richard Harter, was found beaten to death in his bathtub late Tuesday.

After receiving a call from the victim's son, police responded to Harter's home, located across the street from the Upland Police Department, and found Harter's body. His car and other items were missing.

On Wednesday morning, an officer spotted the vehicle, and the driver, Christopher Benjamin Martinez, 27, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Later Wednesday, detectives arrested Carlos A. Montgomery, 20, of Claremont on suspicion of acting as a lookout.
