Santa Paula Boy Dies After Pickup Backs Over Him

A 17-month-old boy died Wednesday when his father ran over him by accident in the driveway of their Santa Paula home, police said.

The father was backing up his pickup truck shortly after 11 a.m. when the boy ran into the driveway of the 4th Street home and was struck by the vehicle, Santa Paula Police Cmdr. Mark Trimble said.

Police did not release their names.

After the boy was hit, his mother ran into the yard and shouted at her husband to call 911, Trimble said.

Instead, the father put his son in the pickup and drove to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, about five minutes away, Trimble said.

The boy died at the hospital.
