Woman Pleads Innocent in Adoption Scam

March 13, 2003|From Staff and Wire Reports

A former El Cajon adoption broker who allegedly promised to send a pair of young twins to several couples has pleaded innocent to 10 counts of wire fraud.

Tawana Dancy, formerly known as Tina Johnson, appeared in federal court Tuesday to face charges in the case. She is accused of collecting more than $28,000 from the would-be parents.

Dancy, 36, used the Internet starting in 2000 to advertise that the baby girls, born to a Missouri couple, were available for adoption, prosecutors said.
