Increase in Visas Helped Create Tech Job Troubles

LETTERS

March 30, 2003

The reason the smart, experienced people interviewed in your article can't find jobs is that there is a glut of workers in the tech field ("Data Reveals Severity of Tech's Pain," March 7).

Part of this glut was created when the limit for H-1B visas was increased in 1998 and again in 2000. There are now 600,000 to 900,000 H-1B workers in the United States, more than half in technology.
