Storm Is Expected to Taper Off by Nightfall

May 03, 2003|From Times Staff Reports

Forecasters expect a storm that moved into Ventura County on Friday afternoon to stick around through today, dumping up to 2 inches near the coast and 4 inches in the mountains.

The storm, which approached from the north, had deposited about half an inch of precipitation in Santa Barbara by 6 p.m. Friday, more than a third of an inch at Lake Casitas and more than a quarter-inch in Ventura.

The rain was expected to be heavy overnight, lightening throughout the day and tapering off by nightfall, said meteorologist David Gomberg.

Officials warned motorists to be extra cautious after a rash of minor injury crashes Friday.
