3 Spills Dump Untreated Waste Onto Streets

May 08, 2003|From Times Wire Reports

Three sewage spills in March dumped nearly 10,000 gallons of untreated waste onto city streets and into the ocean, leading environmentalists to urge the city to replace aging sewer pipes.

No fines were imposed because the board determined the city acted responsibly to clean up the mess and that in some cases the spills couldn't be avoided.
